Overview
The aim of the ICT Learning centre is to actively support and enhance student learning within ICT disciplines across UL, with a particular focus on programming and software-related skills. We provide intensive support which seeks to engage students through innovative tutoring and learner-focused support thereby augmenting existing teaching and learning activities within the curriculum. We achieve this with the support and collaboration of faculty members, which are crucial to the successful implementation of our services and their uptake by our target audience. The centre is managed by Clem O’Donnell under the direction of Prof Hussain Mahdi and Dr Michael English.
Mission Statement
To support and promote active learning among the students of ICT-related programmes in UL, via the use of proven learner support approaches, tutoring innovation, research and evaluation, with the goal of developing learners who are confident and effective ICT practitioners.
Objectives
- Enhance and broaden the students’ ICT skill-set.
- Increase the retention rates within ICT-related courses.
- Promote active and student-centred learning in ICT disciplines.
- Promote ICT as a career path to current and potential students.
- Undertake research to evaluate and improve the ICT learning services and supports.
